So true…carving out time for what might be seen as another ‘frivolous leadership off-site’ can be both a logistical and cultural challenge.
The can gets kicked down the road in favour of our old friend BAU.
Pressure builds on the team, interactions become transactional, individual priorities take precedence, trust wanes…
Without exception the best leaders I have worked with spot this pattern and recognise the need to:
✅ Make time to talk (really talk…)
✅ Cement the team’s shared purpose and goals
✅ Ensure the right people are focused on the right things
✅ Build trust and a shared commitment
That’s what makes the difference between a group of individuals and a team.
And I’ve enjoyed worked with just that sort of team again this week in Edinburgh…as well as seeing the transformation around St James Quarter!
Here’s to those leaders who are savvy enough to recognise that there’s never a good time and do something about it 👍
